World War One in the Dolomites: Via Ferrata and Trekking

world war one dolomites cover

The front line of World War One (WW1) cut the Dolomites in diagonally. Along the ruins of the mountain front we can do adventurous hut to hut trekking and climbing via ferratas. These proposals are impressive for every person, from easy hikers to experienced climbers.

The first via ferrata in the Dolomites was built for the military exigence on the First World War (WW1). During the World War One the front between the Austrian-Hungarian Imperial Troops and the Royal Italian Army was along the Dolomites areas with a diagonal complex connection, from peak to peak, along the highest elevations mountains of the crest line.

Via Ferrata Dolomites on the World War One   Via Ferrata Dolomites on the World War One

During the World War 1 in the Dolomites more of hundred via ferrata and thousand kilometers of paths was built in verticals and exposed big walls, the reason was to carry at the top of the peaks: soldiers, weapons, munitions and tons of supplies. Today many of these via ferratas are restructured and we can climb these front line vertical paths, with these impressive protected climbing paths originals of the World War One.

Every hiker can walk in treks on the military paths and climb these via ferrata with the help of a mountain guide. Climb the via ferrata of the World War One in the Dolomites in one articulated trekking is a unique experience! Don't worry, think that every soldier had a twenty kilogram of backpack on these via ferratas and climbed under the enemy artillery fire. Today you can climb it sure in softer situations! Don't worry, you can do!

But if you prefer we can have a simple hiking tour in form of a hut to hut trekking. Personally I suggest a combination of trekking with the climbing of some World War One via ferrata in the Dolomites, it's sure the most complete experience!
